The Green Monster in left field of Boston's Fenway Park is one of the most recognized icons in sports history. Many great players have played before the 37-foot wall, none better than Hall of Famers, Ted Williams and Carl Yastremski. Ted Williams, known to many as ''The Splendid Splinter'', was one of baseball's greatest hitters. His accomplishments included a .406 batting average in 1941, two triple crowns, two MVPs, six American League batting championships, 521 Home Runs, a lifetime average of .344 and was selected to 17 All-Star Games. As Ted Williams contemplated retirement, a young prospect emerged in the Boston system. Carl Yastrzemski would succeed the great Ted Williams in Left Field, and carry on the Green Monster's grand tradition. ''Yaz'' succeeded Ted Williams in 1961 and retired 23 years later as the all-time Red Sox leader in eight major categories. A three time-batting champion, ''Yaz'' was named the American League MVP in 1967 when he won the Triple Crown, batting .326 with 121 RBI and 44 home runs. These two baseball icons patrolled Fenway Park's left field for a combined 42 seasons.
