The 2005 West Virginia Mountaineers had something only a handful of teams find. A lot of teams throughout the nation have talent, but only a select few have team chemistry, the bond needed that transforms a good team into a great one. This group of Mountaineers mixed strong veteran leadership with youthful energy into a formula that truly jelled. An 11-1 record was a great achievement for these Mountaineers, who worked hard, sweated, cried, laughed and celebrated together. They overcame huge obstacles and enjoyed success as a team. No one can underestimate the power of togetherness. The national experts did not expect much, but the 2005 Mountaineers delivered a BIG EAST championship, a BCS bowl berth and one of the best seasons in school history. Mountaineer fans had fun watching this team. It had just the right mix of veteran leadership and youthful exuberance to deliver a season that was "Sweet As Sugar.".
