From 1998-2002, every WWE Superstar targeted the "Royal Rumble" as the way to ensure a spot in the main event at WrestleMania. The period saw Stone Cold Steve Austin win two additional Rumble matches, becoming the first Superstar to win three. The Rock also finally broke through and won the Rumble. For the first time, the Rumble included a female entrant, a popular comedian entered the event, and Mick Foley appeared as three different Superstars.
