On January 1, 1994, the mighty Florida State Seminoles met the undefeated Nebraska Cornhuskers in the FedEx Orange Bowl for the National Championship. Florida State, led by Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, came to defeat Nebraska 18-16 to secure the school's first ever national crown. In a tight game, Seminole freshman placekicker Scott Bentley split the uprights from 22 yards out with just 21 seconds left in regulation to cap the comeback. The winning kick was Bentley's fourth of the day and tied an Orange Bowl record.
