Rick Steves

All 7 half-hour "Rick Steves' Europe" TV shows on Spain and Portugal, filmed entirely on location and produced from 2000 to 2009, are together on a single DVD. Here's where we'll take you... "Barcelona and Catalunya": The creative spirit of Spain's Catalunya?the land of Picasso, Gaudi and Dali - is on a roll. We'll dive into the festivity of Barcelona, taste some tapas, and take eye-opening side-trips to Figueres, mountaintop Montserrat, and seaside Cadaques. "The Majesty of Madrid": We dive into Madrid with tours of the lavish Royal Palace and masterpiece-packed Prado, then become mesmerized by flamenco dancers, and try munching on pigs' ears. Our finale is a dramatic dose of history at El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen. "Highlights of Castille: Toledo and Salamanca": Castile sparkles with Roman Segovia, walled Avila, student-filled Salamanca, and holy Toledo! We marvel at El Greco and ramble Spain's most awe-inspiring medieval walls. Then we grab a front-row seat to enjoy Europe's most enchanting public square. "Sevilla and Andalusia": Sevilla has soul - and we feel it in its lacy Moorish palace, massive cathedral, lavish royal tombs, labyrinthine Jewish quarter, and its people-filled streets. After munching tasty tapas, we head south for Andalusia's ultimate whitewashed hilltown, Arcos de la Frontera. "Spain's Costa del Sol": In Granada we explore Europe's last and greatest Moorish palace, the Alhambra. Then we soak up the sun on a Costa del Sol beach before taking a day trip to Africa, where we plunge into the exotic markets of old Tangier. "Lisbon and the Algarve": Salty sailors' quarters and wistful Fado singers mix with Lisbon's ornate architecture to recall the glory days when Vasco da Gama made Portugal a world power. Then we head for the Algarve to explore historic Cape Sagres before savoring sleepy fishing village of Salema.
