Last Detective: Series 1, The (Widescreen)
Last Minute Sales & Specials
He's gentle, old-fashioned, and decent; nice even when he's drunk. But these qualities only earn Detective Constable "Dangerous" Davies (Peter Davison, "Campion," "All Creatures Great And Small") the scorn of his fellow detectives in a small London police station. His boss tells him straight out that he's the last detective he would assign to a major crime-solving mission. Unlucky in love, rumpled, and accident prone, Dangerous muddles on and, with the help of his eccentric friend Mod (Sean Hughes, "The Commitments"), he proves the merits of his dogged, unglamorous method. He likes being a detective, and occasionally, he gets to do some good. Based on the "Dangerous Davies" novels by Leslie Thomas. Includes 4 episodes. Disc 1 - Episodes include: "The Last Detective" (Feature-length Pilot) - As usual Davies gets the case at the bottom of the investigative pile. But it leads him to something much bigger; the unsolved murder of a 17-year-old girl. Davies works on the case unofficially with the help of his friend Mod, who is frequently available as he goes from odd job to odder job. "Dangerous By Moonlight" - Davies investigates the disappearance of a man whose wife seems curiously unconcerned about his whereabouts. Because the investigation takes them to a dance club that caters to senior citizens, Davies and Mod face the additional challenge of remaining light on their feet. Disc 2 - Episodes include: "Tricia" - Davies works on two cases simultaneously, and neither is what it first appears to be. Both involve demanding women: an old busybody who suspects her black neighbor is up to no good and an attractive young woman who seems to be developing a personal interest in Davies. "Lofty" - An eccentric old man Davies has befriended in the park is found dead in a canal. After meeting Jemma, the old man's social worker, Davies decides to take on the case, because no one else will and because it might bring him closer to Jemma.
