Star Trek, Vol. 32: Episodes 63 And 64 (Full Frame)

"The Empath" As prisoners of the Vians, Kirk and McCoy are tortured so that Gem, a mute empath, can learn to use her abilities and save her race. Trek Trivia "The Empath" contains one of DeForest Kelley's classic McCoy-isms: "I'm a doctor, not a coal-miner!" Note that when Kirk, Spock and McCoy are paralyzed by the Vians' energy-sapping beam, Kirk states that he can't stand up; this is strange considering that he's standing at the time! "The Tholian Web": Kirk is trapped in interspace, and the Tholians, accusing the Enterprise of trespassing, begin to weave an energy web around the ship. Trek Trivia The Tholian Web won "Star Trek"'s first Emmy for special effects (created by Vanderveer Photo Effects). The voice of Commander Loskene was provided by fan favorite Barbara Babcock. The Tholians would not be heard from again until the second season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", when it was learned that Riker's father was the sole survivor of a Tholian attack.
