Sans ex-husband Desi Arnaz, Lucille Ball returned to television with a half-hour show based, in part, on the novel, "Life Without George", written by Irene Kampen. The Lucy Show made its debut October 1, 1962, and lasted six seasons. Lucille Ball's character on "The Lucy Show" was a newly widowed secretary named Lucy Carmichael, who worked for a branch of the First National Bank located in Danfield, Connecticut. Her irritable supervisor Mr. Barnsdahl (Charles Lane) was replaced in 1963 with a new, and equally bad-tempered boss, Theodore J. Mooney (Gale Gordon). By the fall of 1965, a new format for the show was developed. In this latest version, the entire original cast was cut (except for Gale Gordon) and replaced with an all-new line up. Now, Lucy Carmichael found herself at a bank in sunny California, where nearly all of her comic exploits revolved around the workplace. In "The Lucy Show", one can see some familiar faces such as Vivian Vance, who was a permanent character for the first three years, and who made an annual appearance for the following three seasons. True to form, "The Lucy Show" is delightful and chock full of the typically hysterical antics of the lovable redhead.
