Haunted Gold (Full Frame)

A haunted-house tale in the buckaroo West: That's just part of the fun of the third - and most unusual - of six Warner Bros. films made in the early 1930s with handsome icon-in-the-making John Wayne and using intercut footage of silent-screen cowboy Ken Maynard (and his hors Tarzan) in long-shot sequences. John Mason (Wayne) has a half-interest claim in an abandoned mine, prim Janet (Sheila Terry) has the other half, and a band of varmints has interest in claiming it all. The mine runs deep. Its mystery runs deeper - with messages from The Phantom and a dark house filled with secret passages. Blue Washington, in one of the few credited appearances of his long career, plays Wayne's able yet superstitious sidekick.
