Soulful is a hip-hop, R&B musical horror film about a woman who lets a man into her home. Thinking he was from child welfare services, there to take her son away from her, she would open the door, and invite him into hell. He would smile politely, survey the cracked paint and roaches on the wall, the well worn couch and young boy in the corner, and thank her for the invitation, proclaiming he felt right at home. What happened next is her story and these are her words: "I was a crack addict. I was going to die a crack addict. I was never confused about those facts, even when I found myself pregnant. The devil told me what I already knew. I didn't have to put down the crack pipe. I could smoke my life away. I died giving birth to Rachel. The doctors proclaimed her a miracle. She was healthy. Not a trace of drugs in her system. A motherless child, a soulless child, a child born to the devil could only grow up to paint with pain, spread tidal waves of anger and destroy all beauty around her.
