Adventures Of Antoine Doinel (French), The

Includes Five Films By Francois Truffaut, "The 400 Blows," "Antoine And Colette," "Stolen Kisses," "Bed And Board" and "Love On The Run" This five-disc boxed set covers four features by Francois Truffaut, detailing the multi-movie adventures of a character based on the director himself. Beginning with "The 400 Blows" (1959) and continuing through the 1960s and 70s with the short film "Antoine And Colette" and the features "Stolen Kisses," "Bed And Board" and "Love On The Run," Truffaut collaborated with actor Jean-Pierre Leaud to create a long-running cinematic character and follow him through marriage, children, divorce and adulthood. "The 400 Blows" & "Antoine And Colette" - Francois Tuffaut's first feature is also his most personal. Told through the eyes of Truffaut's cinematic counterpart, Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Leaud), "The 400 Blows" (Les Quatre cents coups) sensitively recreates the trials of Truffaut's own difficult childhood, unsentimentally portraying aloof parents, oppressive teachers, petty crime, and a friendship that would last a lifetime. The film marks Truffaut's passage from leading critic of the French New Wave to his emergence as one of Europe's most brilliant auteurs. Also included is "Antoine And Colette", Truffaut's acclaimed 30-minute film from the 1962 omnibus feature "L'Amour A Vingt Ans". "Stolen Kisses" - Jean-Pierre Leaud returns in delightful "Stolen Kisses" (Baisers Voles), the third installment in the Antoine Doinel series. It is now 1968, and the mischievous and perpetually love-struck Doinel has been dishonorably discharged from the army and released onto streets of Paris, where he stumbles into the unlikely profession of private detective and embarks on a series of misadventures. Whimsical, nostalgic, and irrepressibly romantic, "Stolen Kisses" is Truffaut's timeless ode to the passion and impetuosity of youth.
