Children Of Chabannes, The

Winner of an Emmy Award and top honors at 10 major film festivals, "The Children Of Chabannes" is a magical World War II tale of courage, resilience and love, which tells the story of how the people of Chabannes - a tiny village in unoccupied France - chose action over indifference to save the lives of 400 Jewish refugee children. Returning to the township with some of the children who were rescued and now fully grown, filmmakers Lisa Gossels and Dean Wetherell spiritedly overcome the typical "talking head" documentary to recreate the joys and fears of daily life long ago. Sobering and self-reflective, but not without a dose of joy and humor, the film delivers a profound message of survival and human compassion.
