Don Knotts stars with Leslie Nielsen in a family comedy about a simple, hometown fellow who ends up becoming an experimental astronaut despite his fear of heights! Knotts is Royal Fleming, a carnival worker who operates a spaceship attraction for kids. Concerned by his son's lack of ambition, Royal's father takes it upon himself to send Royal's application to NASA. When his application is accepted, the astonished Royal sets out for Florida, but, rather than space travel, his new station in life involves sweeping floors. It's only after NASA officials discover that Russia is planning a civilian space mission that Royal becomes noticed. It seems he's the perfect candidate for the American version of the same experimental flight. Mustering up his gumption, Royal heads into orbit, and through a hilarious series of events an unlikely hero is born.
