To 14-year-old little leaguer Calvin Fuller, life is like one big strikeout when he lets his team down. Then an earthquake sends him through a magical time rift, and he finds himself in King Arthur's court. But all is not well with the realm. An aged King Arthur is in danger of losing control to the evil Lord Belasco, and now it's up to Calvin to save the kingdom. But before he can find a way to vanquish Belasco, he must first find a way to conquer his own fears. An earthquake occurs during a Little League game in Southern California, and 14-year-old Calvin Fuller, playing for a team known as the Knights, falls through a crack in the earth and is inexplicably thrust back in time to the mythical medieval kingdom of Camelot and court of the legendary King Arthur. Calvin discovers he has been summoned to the twelfth century by Merlin to help restore Arthur's fading glory and to prevent the realm from falling into the clutches of the sinister Lord Belasco. Calvin must find the courage to face Belasco and prove to himself he has what it takes to be a worthy knight. , Producer Robert Levy got the idea for the movie one night after reading Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court" to his son. "I used to paraphrase the classics when I told bedtime stories, and many times I'd make my son the hero.", , To gain an authentic look, the producers decided to film in and around Budapest, Hungary. They found a medieval castle and village set being used by a BBC television series that was on hiatus for the season. With a little redressing and redesigning, the set was just right.
